Aeromodeling contests began almost as soon as two people could fly a model airplane. In 1907 and 1908, early model aviation clubs formed and began hosting regional competitions. Those competitions grew into national contests—eventually evolving into this year’s National Aeromodeling Championships (Nats). You are continuing a century-long tradition of celebrating our great hobby, while challenging each other to be the best. This is also a time to build new friendships and get reacquainted with longtime friends. Many consider this our hobby’s Olympics. 
Whether you are a competitor or a spectator, the next several days will give you the opportunity to witness some of the best flying. It will also showcase the passion that our members have not only for the hobby, but for each other.
This is evidenced by the army of volunteers who devote their time to making this a first-rate event. Please be sure to thank the volunteers who make the Nats possible. I also encourage you to take full advantage of the International Aeromodeling Center. Stop by the National Model Aviation Museum, where we are continually rotating exhibits, and check out our recent redesign of the lobby.
